Long Island Farm Tour Review

Hello there. My name is Rachel and I am a farm addict. There, I said it. Admitting you have the problem is the first step right? Never mind I take it back. It’s not a problem, it’s a wonderful thing that more people need to agree on. This being the case, I can consider myself somewhat of an expert on navigating a farm stand or farmers market.

I’m sure this will not be a final review, as I am a farm fiend and am constantly looking for new places to visit. In this review I will go through some of my favorite farms on Long Island (I live here if you didn’t already know).

There is something special to me about going to a farm. Maybe it’s the smell of fresh pies or the animals but I think we can all agree there is nothing like the feeling knowing where your food comes from.

Okay enough talk, lets get into it!

Disclaimer: None of these are in a particular order

Youngs Farm

I’ve been going to Youngs for years now and I think I have the place down pat. They aren’t my favorite for pie. However, they have pretty great blueberry scones, donut muffins, soups and apple sauce. Personally, I love this farm for its charm and homeware for sale. They have great options for gifts for your farm house loving friends. My sister bought a great blue and white splatter bowl there and LOVES it. Youngs isn’t really a sit down kind of place. Normally, people get their food and leave. Recently I found a cute little table and bench set up behind the bakery that offers great views of the fields. If you’re into farm themed homeware and need a gift for a friend I would recommend Youngs for you. Otherwise I’d get your baked goods elsewhere.IMG_1206.JPG

Kerber’s is adorable. It just is. You pull up to it and what you see is the classic American “farm stand” that people envision in their minds. The American flag waving you on in is welcoming and homey and I love this place. Kerber’s has some produce to buy but its more well known for their deli style counter and pies- which are all pretty great.

In the back of the building is a little area with vintage tables where you can sit and enjoy a nice view of the greenery as well as the livestock. Kerber’s has a few chickens and hens hanging out in the back which is so fun to see!

My favorite things to order are:

  • Biscuit egg sandwich
  • Roasted veggies
  • S’mores pie
  • Pecan pie square

You can’t go wrong with any of these options!

What I will say is that their cheese scone looks better than it is so don’t waste your money on it. We’ve all been fooled by cheese before it’s a right of passage…

Briermere Farm

Let me start out by saying one thing.. Fruit Cream PIE! If there is one thing you need to know about this place is that their cream pies are incredible and the only thing you need to buy when you go there. In fact it’s the only thing I really get when I go so I can’t even tell you how their other food is.

My favorite things to order:

  • Raspberry Cream Pie
  • Blueberry Cream Pie
  • Chocolate Fudge Cupcake

Rottkamp Brother’s Farm

Rottkamp is just produce. Plain and simple. You drive up a big beautiful road and pull up right at the barn.

Here are my favorites:

  • Sunflowers
  • Peaches
  • Tomatoes
  • Fresh Lettuce/ Carrots
